1881 O Morgan Silver Dollar

Here are two photos of one of my 1881 O Morgan Silver Dollars. I think the front toning is pretty neat, but the stripe on the back is a bit annoying. That's okay, though! I ended up picking up a Red Book for Morgan Dollars and I'm learning a whole lot!

NY Victorian Doorknob Relic found With Garrett Ace 250

I found this cool doorknob in a small field near where I live about 6-8" down. I don't really remember what it rung up as on my Ace 250, but it must have been a pretty good signal for me to go for it at that sort of depth. This area used to be occupied by many Victorian houses (the town dates back to pre-Revolutionary War), but they demolished them in an effort to update the town. My guess is that this is one of the remaining parts of one of those houses. Pretty cool to recover a piece of local history!

Can anyone ID the time period on this thing?

Cashed in my Clad! $85.85

No pictures, but I cashed in my clad for this season! I don't get to get out and detect very often right now, so I only got a lowly $85.85. Not bad for a cheap Ace 250 metal detector, though! Some of the crusty zincolns clogged the machine so I did the "I have no idea what the heck that is or what it's doing in my change!" story. I ended up trying to remove the partials before they went into the machine.

Antique Bottle Found Metal Detecting

I was out metal detecting in a small woods and came across this antique bottle. It was just sitting along the surface in the woods. Anyone know what kind of bottle this is? Brief research tells me this is from the early 1900's period.

I also started tagging personal hunts and things I find with the GoldenEagle tag, so start to look for that!

Pinpointing on Etrac - without pinpoint button!

Great video from Goes4ever on how to pinpoint with the Minelab Etrac without using the pinpoint feature. This comes in handy when you're targeting a specific find while there may be other metallic objects around. Enjoy! I have to get me a Minelab metal detector!

CRH Finds Weird Penny - Error or Post Mint Damage?

I found this strange 1980 penny while CRH. It has what looks like a pock mark just behind Lincoln's head on the obverse, and then a cluster of accumulated copper on the edge of the coin.  There looks to be a set of scratches that point in the direction of the cluster, suggesting that the material missing from the pock is instead deposited on the edge.

My guess is it's some kind of post mint damage since I'm not sure this defect could be created in the mint die press process.

Golden Eagle's Coin Roll Hunting Results - 12/22/2012

Hi guys,

Finally got through the 3 boxes of dimes, 1 box of nickels, 1 box of pennies and 1 box of Nickels I blogged about earlier this week and here are the results:

• Quarters : Some State Parks, otherwise skunked!
• Nickels: Total Skunk (Pee - yew!!!!)
• Pennies: Some wheats/coppers that went right into appropriate jars....
• Dimes: out of $750 dimes, 6 silvers including a 1943d Mercury dime!

No silvers pitched out of the machine on the return, but I was gifted with an extra 2 pennies overage from the coin counting machine. Bonus win!: The bank gives me a free gift if I can guess the amount of coins within $1.99 and I won a free bank hand sanitizer. Might need that next time after going through all of those coins again. #crhfingers

Golden Eagle's Coin Roll Hunting!

So it's not exactly metal detecting, but I thought I'd give another try at the old coin roll hunting thing with 3 boxes of Dimes, 1 Box of Quarters, 1 Box of Pennies and a Box of Nickels. I'm willing to bet I have some pretty good stuff in here! I'll post what I find once I go through them all.

Coin of the Day #1 : Canadian 1945 King George VI 50 cent

This is the first of what I hope will be a recurring series on MDVids.Blogspot.com : Coin of the Day!

The idea is to show some photos of cool or interesting coins that people have in their collections. We'll be starting off with some coins of mine until others start submitting their own as well. I'm setting the bar pretty low, but it goes to show that anyone can have some things from their collection shown. From corroded, dug coins to slabbed and graded, we're looking for you!

Here are 2 images of my Canadian 1945 King George VI 50 cent silver coin. I picked up it for free as a throw in to a silver purchase I was making on an online trade site.

Silvers Found in Woods with Fisher F70 Metal Detector by Russ

In this video, Russ shows us all how to dig silver with his Fisher F70. He mentions that the silver quarters are ringing up in the 87-s , whereas the clad quarters are typically ringing up in the 83s on his F70. He also says the silver dimes ring up in a 76/77 range. Sort of awkward how he mentions the Fisher F70 a million times. He's hunting with a Fisher F70! .... Did you know he's using a Fisher F70?
